Vice President JD Vance hit the road again this week, rallying supporters at a steel facility in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he delivered a clear message: the Trump administration is serious about restoring law and order and putting working families first.

Federal Crime Crackdown in D.C.

Vance praised President Trump’s decisive move to take temporary federal control of Washington, D.C.’s police department under the Home Rule Act. With violent crime spiraling out of control in the nation’s capital, Trump deployed thousands of federal officers and National Guard troops to reclaim the streets.

The results have been undeniable. Carjackings, armed robberies, and murders have dropped sharply—with some categories down by as much as 80–90%. Even Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser, often a vocal critic of Trump, admitted that the capital is safer today thanks to the surge of federal officers.

As Vance put it, “Thank God Donald Trump did what he did. The people of this country deserve to walk down the street without getting mugged, to take their families out without fear of violence.”

Milwaukee and Chicago Could Be Next

While Democrats in big cities continue to resist federal involvement, Vance made it clear that the White House is willing and ready to help other communities plagued by crime.

“We would love to come and help the people of Milwaukee,” Vance told the crowd, “but the president has said he wants to be asked. We would love to come in and lock up those violent criminals.”

Chicago, Milwaukee, and even New York City and Baltimore are being openly discussed as potential next steps in Trump’s nationwide crime crackdown.

But so far, Democratic mayors like Milwaukee’s Cavalier Johnson have refused to request help—choosing political defiance over public safety. Vance didn’t mince words: “Why are these mayors angrier at Donald Trump for offering to help than they are about their own residents being carjacked and murdered in the streets?”

The “Working Families Tax Cut”

Vance’s remarks weren’t just about crime. He also took the opportunity to sell the administration’s newly passed economic package, which Republicans are branding as the “Working Families Tax Cut.

The sweeping legislation, signed into law on July 4, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay, expands the child tax credit, and provides new funding to law enforcement to crack down on drug cartels and deportation operations.

Vance highlighted Trump’s tough new tariffs as well. “If you build junk overseas and try to undercut American workers, you’re going to pay a big, fat tariff,” he told the crowd, drawing loud applause from the steelworkers in attendance.

Contrasting Republican Leadership with Democratic Failure

The Wisconsin stop underscored how the Trump-Vance team is weaving together law-and-order and pro-worker economics into a unified campaign message. On one hand, the administration is showing results by reducing crime in D.C.; on the other, it is putting more money back into Americans’ paychecks through tax relief and tariffs designed to protect U.S. jobs.

Meanwhile, Democrats are left opposing Trump at every turn, even when it means standing in the way of public safety or siding with illegal immigrants over American citizens. Vance mocked the reflexive opposition: “If Donald Trump came out tomorrow and said he really likes puppies, AOC would say puppies are terrible.”

Looking Ahead

As Vance continues to crisscross battleground states like Wisconsin, Georgia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, his message is clear: Trump is delivering both safer streets and stronger paychecks.

The administration’s strategy is already showing results in Washington, D.C., and voters in crime-ridden cities like Chicago and Milwaukee are beginning to ask the same question Vance raised: why won’t Democratic leaders put their people ahead of politics?
